About 12 Gems

12 Gems Jewelry was created out of a love of crystals and their metaphysical healing powers. Crystals and gemstones have long been used to enhance the chakras, activate the DNA and expand consciousness as well as provide protection, support the spiritual body, heal emotions and bring in abundance. The best way to harness the healing energy of a crystal or gemstone is to place or wear it over the appropriate chakra or organ. When wearing a purified crystal or gemstone you feel calm and peaceful as its vibration radiates into your being.

In Exodus, it is told that 12 gemstones were placed on the priestly breastplate, known as the ephod. Each stone pertained to the sons of of Israel and included: carnelian, peridot, emerald, turquoise, lapis lazuli, diamond, jacinth, agate, amethyst, beryl, onyx and jasper.

Indian warriors in the Great Plains and Great Basin regions have worn the breastplate for hundreds of years. Made from a variety of materials including bone-pipe, deer hide and gemstones, the breastplate was originally worn for protection against arrow and spears in battle. However the breastplate is still worn by American Indians during ceremonial events and festivals and this is because the breastplate provides more than a layer of physical protection, it also has spiritual significance. The breastplate provided spiritual protection for the warrior while he fought for his tribe and each item that was used for decoration transferred the characteristic of the animal or element to the warrior. The hair-pipe bones that make up the majority of the breastplate were traditionally made from bison and often the wealth and strength of a warrior was determined by the number of hair-pipe bones on his breastplate as well as the particular items, such as feathers and gemstones, it was adorned with.
